PURPOSE: An energy recovery device of an AC type plasma display panel(PDP) and an energy recovery method using the same are provided, which improves an energy recovery efficiency and a driving characteristics of the AC type plasma display panel. CONSTITUTION: The energy recovery device of an AC type plasma display panel is constituted to recover a charge/discharge energy by being resonated with a panel capacitor of the plasma display panel. The energy recovery device includes a sustain driving unit(30) which is connected to a power supply part and is switched according to an external control signal and also supplies a sustain voltage to the panel capacitor to drive the display panel and also discharges its charging energy periodically. And an energy recovery unit comprises the first inductor(L1) arranged in a charging path of the panel capacitor and the second inductor arranged in a discharge path, and recovers a current energy stored in the first and the second inductor to the power supply part by being switched according to the external control signal after the charging/discharging operation of the panel capacitor.
