PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an adhesive composition which is excellent in initial adhesiveness, adhesive strength, solvent resistance, etc., and useful especially for bonding a woody material. SOLUTION: This adhesive composition comprises an aqueous emulsion (A) and a polisocyanate compound (B). The aqueous emulsion contains a polymer having structural units derived from at least one monomer selected from among ethylenically unsaturated monomers and diene monomers as a dispersoid and a vinyl alcohol polymer having at least 1.7 mol% 1,2-glycol bonds as a dispersant and has an average particle size of 2μm or lower.
