PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of putting cigarette cartons of different brands in an empty box wherein gaps occurring in the empty box can be smaller. SOLUTION: The method includes steps of assigning a 100S empty box to 100S-type cartons with a small order, a box-type empty box to box-type cartons with a large order and an empty box when both types of cartons intermingle, respectively. In each of the assigning steps, when assigning an empty box to the 100S-type cartons, if the number of remaining cartons is smaller than the allowable number (50) to receive of the empty box, it is determined whether or not the number of the remaining cartons is the allowable number (40) of the 100S-type cartons in the box-type carton or less. If the number is larger than 40, an empty box for 100S-type cartons is assigned, and if the number is 40 or less, an empty box for box-type cartons is assigned.
