PURPOSE: A method of displaying caller ID for a DID(Direct In Dialing) local line of an exchange is provided to deliver a DID receiving number corresponding to an occupied DID transmitting local line to a local exchange, and to detect the number in the local exchange to use the detected number as a caller ID, thereby displaying the DID receiving number to a subscriber as the caller ID. CONSTITUTION: A central controller occupies a DID transmitting local line(S31), and delivers a DID receiving number used by a subscriber B to a local exchange through a DID connector(S32). If the central controller delivers a dial tone to the subscriber B(S33), the subscriber B dials a telephone number of a subscriber A(S34) and the central controller delivers the telephone number of the subscriber A to the local exchange(S35). A central controller of the local exchange detects the receiving number delivered from a private exchange by controlling a tone detector, and recognizes that the subscriber A is called(S36). The central controller of the local exchange delivers a ring signal to a terminal of the subscriber A, and simultaneously displays the DID receiving number recognized as a telephone number of the subscriber B(S37).
