PURPOSE: Provided is a method for preparing N-(mercaptoacyl)amino acid derivatives, which is applied in an industrial scale, gives improved yield and purity of the product and reduces the cost. CONSTITUTION: The method for preparing N-(mercaptoacyl) amino acid derivatives of the formula I comprises performing a Michael addition of a thioacid of the formula of R4SH with an alpha-substituted acrylamide derivative of the formula V: wherein R1 represents a phenyl group or a 3,4-methylenedioxyphenyl group; R2 represents a hydrogen atom or a lower alkyl group; R3 represents a hydrogen atom, a lower alkyl group or a lower phenylalkylene group; and R4 represents a linear or branched aliphatic acyl radical or an aromatic acyl radical.
