PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To propose a method for manufacturing an optical retardation plate with which a coating film composed of an organic polymer material provided with a surface of desired smoothness can be formed on a surface of an optical retardation film without constraints of the size and shape of the optical retardation film. SOLUTION: The organic polymer material 50 is applied to a surface 41 of the optical retardation film 4 composed of an organic polymer material and stuck to a transparent substrate 2 via an adhesive layer 3. Subsequently, the surface of the organic polymer material 50 is pressed with a flat pressing surface 61 of a pressing member 6. The coating film 5 is formed by heat setting the organic polymer material 50 while keeping this state, and subsequently the optical retardation plate 1 is obtained by removing the pressing member 6. The coating film 5 composed of the organic polymer material provided with the surface of high smoothness can be formed on the surface of the optical retardation film 4 without constraints of size and shape of the optical retardation plate and the optical retardation plate 1 which is suitable for an optical head device and has little transmission waveform aberration is obtained. |
