PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of detecting a residual quantity of ink and an inkjet printer capable of directly detecting a residual quantity of the ink by a simple structure without applying a structural load to an ink vessel. SOLUTION: The ink vessel 1 is formed of a soft wrapping material by using in at least a part thereof an expansion material. At least two auxiliary needles 3, 3 which are arranged in parallel to each other in order to stabilize change of the shape of the ink vessel 1 along with the consumption of the ink, are struck into the part of the ink vessel 1 having expansion material. A detecting means 5 is provided to the struck by the auxiliary needles at the side of the ink vessel 1. By detecting change in the shape thereof, the residual quantity of the ink is detected. |
