PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method wherein the remaining life of a seal is controlled with high accuracy by a method wherein a sliding amount in an excitation actually influencing the life of the seal is grasped precisely without performing an uncoupling and disassembling inspection or the like. SOLUTION: The seal remaining-life control apparatus 40 for an exciter 1 controls the life of the seal applied to a cylinder in the exciter 1 used to excite a vibration body. The control apparatus is provided with a target-wave generation circuit 32 which generates target waves used to slide the cylinder and an accelerometer 38 and a displacement sensor 39 which detect the sliding amount of the cylinder. On the basis of a waveform detected by them, a recent sliding amount is integrated, its integrated result is added to a previous total sliding amount, and the life of the seal is decided on the basis of whether the total sliding amount reaches a predetermined set value.
