<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical amplifier, in which wave-length dispersion is compensated over a wide wave-length band and which is suitable for the optical signal transmission of a large capacity. SOLUTION: The optical amplifier for amplifying a signal light through inductive Raman scattering is provided with an optical fiber unit 7, connecting a first optical fiber 1 having a negative wave-length dispersion of -10 ps/nm/km or less and a relative wave-length dispersion slope of an absolute value of 0.002/nm or less in a predetermined wave-length to a second optical fiber having a positive wave-length dispersion of 10 ps/nm/km or more and a relative wave- length dispersion slope of the absolute value of 0.002/nm or less in the same wave length in series to obtain the absolute value of residual wave-length dispersion and the absolute value of the residual wave-length dispersion slope which are lower than a predetermined value, at least one set of a stimulation light source 3, and an optical coupling means 4 for coupling the light emitted from the stimulation light source 3 with the signal light through optical coupling by guiding the light to the optical fiber unit 7.</p> |
