PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a short arc lamp having high efficiency in gathering light. SOLUTION: The short arc lamp has an opening at an end and comprises a body 1, having a discharge space S bounded with a light-reflecting film 2 formed on the inner surface, a pair of anode 3 and cathode 4 facing each other by a specific space in the discharge space and a condenser lens 5 oppositely placed at the opening. Alternatively, the short arc lamp has an opening at an end and comprises a body 1 having a discharge space S inside, a concave light-reflecting member 11 having focus and directed to the opening, and a pair of anode 3 and cathode 4 facing each other by a specific space at approximately the focus of the reflecting member 11. The light-reflecting member 11 is made of glass with a light-reflecting film 12 formed on the inner surface.
