PURPOSE: A system for converting a short message into a multimedia message and a method for implementing the same are provided to convert the short message produced in a terminal providing an SMS(Short Message Service) into the multimedia message in compliance with a defined conversion rule, so as to forward the short message to an MMS(Multimedia Messaging System) terminal. CONSTITUTION: Mobile stations(10) edit and transceive short messages or multimedia messages. BTSs/BSC(Base station Transceiver Subsystems/Base Station Controller)(20/30) enable the mobile stations(10) to access a network by using a wireless protocol. An MSC/VLR(Mobile Switching Center/Visitor Location Register)(40) requests a service of converting a short message from the BTSs/BSC(20/30) into a multimedia message, and mediates and switches the converted multimedia message. An HLR/AC(Home Location Register/Authentication Center)(41) provides a position of an incoming mobile station for processing the short message or the multimedia message, and notifies whether the incoming mobile station is capable of receiving the short message or the multimedia message. An SMSC(Short Message Service Center)(60) temporarily stores and forwards short message data, to handle the request of the message conversion service and the requested conversion service. An SMT(SMS to MMS) server(110) converts the short message into the multimedia message, according to the conversion service request. An MMSC(Multimedia Message Service Center)(80) receives and stores the converted multimedia message, to forward the multimedia message to a mobile station capable of receiving the multimedia message. A conversion information database(160) includes a word that is an object of conversion and multimedia information on conversion. And at lease one ESME(External Short Message Entity)(100) generates a short message corresponding to a requested annexed service under an instruction from the SMSC(60), to perform the annexed service. |
