PURPOSE: A call mode selection method of an image telephone is provided to perform only a voice telephone call if a user only wants the voice telephone call between a voice telephone call and an image telephone call according to the user's opinion. CONSTITUTION: A sender inputs sequentially a telephone number of the other party for talking over a telephone by using a number key equipped with a key pad of a terminal and then pushes a send key(SA1,SA2). Thereafter, if a user wants to a voice telephone call only, the user pushes the send key after pushing a special key equipped with the key pad. If the user wants to an image telephone call(voice+image call), the user pushes the send key after pushing an another special key(SA3-SA5). According to this, a control unit of the terminal of the sender transmits a traffic message representing whether the sender requests only a voice telephone call or an image telephone call, together with a DTMF(Dual Tone Multi Frequency) signal for calling the other party.
