Data storage method that enables error detection and correction in a storage unit designed for reading and writing m-bit words and for possibly modification of only a part of such a word. The method involves: association of an error detection and correction code with a group of a number of words (k) and at each partial writing of the group of words, calculating a new code for the modified group of words; performing a validation operation; and if an error occurs carrying out error correction.
