PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for inserting a watermark using a client system are provided to watermark user identification information into multimedia image data transmitted from a server to reduce traffic on a network. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for inserting a watermark into a digital image includes a client system(A) and a server system(B). When the client system requests the server system to transmit the first digital image, the server system brings out the first digital image of a database to transmit the first digital image to the client system. The client system inserts watermark information into the first digital image to generate the second digital image. The client system includes a watermark insertion unit(7) for inserting user ID into the first digital image as the watermark information, at least one user terminal that requests the server system to transmit the first digital image and displays the second digital image through a web browser, and a recording medium(6) for storing the second digital image.
