PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to reliably ascertain whether or not an e-mail recipient has read a specific document. SOLUTION: A document reading ascertainment method, that ascertains whether or not the e-mail recipient has read a document, includes: an identification information determination procedure (Sb9) including information capable of identifying an e-mail recipient for each 3-mail; a reading document acceptance registration procedure (Sb5) that registers a document of which reading by the e-mail recipient is desired; an access information generation procedure (Sb6) that generates a URL address for permitting access to a registered document; an addition procedure (Sb11) that adds an identification code to the URL address; a transmission procedure that transmits e-mail based on a database in which destination addresses are recorded; and an access record registration procedure (Sa5) that identifies, with a recipient side computer, an e-mail recipient who has accessed from the information, capable of identifying an e-mail recipient, in identification information included in URL address data, and records that the recipient has accessed a document corresponding to the URL address.
