PURPOSE: A system and a method for executing automatic authentication for a web site by using a smart card are provided to enable a user to automatically pass a user authentication procedure at a web site by using a smart card. CONSTITUTION: A user accesses a web site(S1), and then the web site offers a web page to a user computer for an automatic user authentication via a smart card(S2). The user selects a smart card authentication button(S3), and the web site requests the user to input data on the smart card at the user computer(S4). Then, the user inserts the smart card into a smart card reader in connection with the user computer, and the user computer reads the data on the smart card and transmits it to a server of the web site(S5, S6, S7). The server of the web site connects to an authentication server, and transmits the number of the smart card and an authentication request to the authentication server(S8). The authentication server checks whether the transmitted smart card number is included in a member management database, and transmits the check result, namely an authentication result, to the server of the web site. If the user finishes using the web site, the server of the web site transmits a usage specification to the authentication server, and the authentication server makes payment for the usage of the web site by using the electronic money registered in a user account.
