PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high durability, high performance and high reliability photoreceptor which ensures excellent printing durability even when a liquid toner is used and to provide an image forming apparatus. SOLUTION: The photoreceptor 1 is obtained by sequentially stacking an organic photosensitive layer 3, an amorphous silicon layer 4 and a surface protecting layer 5 comprising amorphous silicon carbide or amorphous silicon nitride on an electrically conductive substrate 2. The image forming apparatus 6 is obtained by disposing a corona charger 7 which imparts electric charges to the surface of the photoreceptor 1, an exposer 8 which irradiates the electrification region of the photoreceptor 1 with light, a developing machine 9 which develops an electrostatic latent image formed by the corona charger 7 and the exposer 8 on the surface of the photoreceptor to form a liquid toner image on the surface of the photoreceptor, a transfer unit 11 which transfers the liquid toner image to a transfer material 10, and a cleaning means 12 which removes the residual liquid toner on the surface of the photoreceptor after transfer.
