PURPOSE: An illumination apparatus of a card using an electro-luminescence device and a controlling method thereof are provided to enhance a visual effect of the card by lighting electro-luminescence panels according to predetermined patterns. CONSTITUTION: A plurality of electro-luminescence panels(EL1 to EL5) are contacted with a back side of a card. An automatic switch(10) is formed on one side of a front face of the card in order to light the electro-luminescence panels(EL1 to EL5), sequentially. A manual switch(20) is formed on one side of the front face of the card in order to perform a switching operation of a scroll method. A memory portion(30) stores lighting pattern values and lighting time values of the electro-luminescence panels(EL1 to EL5). A lighting control portion(40) reads the lighting pattern values and the lighting time values of the electro-luminescence panels(EL1 to EL5) and controls each part of a system. A timer portion(50) is operated according to a control operation of the lighting control portion(40). An electro-luminescence driving portion(60) performs a driving operation for lighting the electro-luminescence panels(EL1 to EL5). A power supply portion(70) supplies the power to each part of the system.
