PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate operation, to prevent misoperation, and to lower cost suitably to a user who uses a tape by a small amount and a user who uses tapes of many colors. SOLUTION: A half cut in various pattern is provided to a printing form 2 of a strip of a tape 1 for printing and identification information in bar code for identifying the kind of the pattern of the half cut is given to the printing form 2 etc. A tape printer 11 which prints a short sentence, etc., on the tape 1 for printing comprises a carrying roller 13 which carries the tape 1 for printing, a division pattern detecting sensor 14 which specifies the kind of the pattern of the half cut by detecting the identification information, a used-part detecting sensor 15 which detects a used part of the tape 1 for printing, and printing control means 16 and 20 which specify a printable part by excluding the used part and print the short sentence etc. The identification information may include a color-discriminated pattern.
