PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To extract a similar signal component from a signal even when a different signal is superposed and to quantitatively evaluate its similarity. SOLUTION: A 1st signal between two desired signals whose similarities are to be compared is divided into small areas and one small area is selected to calculate the correlation to the 2nd signal by using a correlation method. Then the time difference, enlargement rate, and similarity of the area whose similarity as the square of the correlation value is maximum are found a value based upon the similarity is integrated at a position represented by the time difference and enlargement rate. All the small areas are similarly processed and the value of the peak where the integrated value of similarities is maximum is compared with a threshold to evaluate the similarities. Further, a small area having voted for the peak can be extracted.
