PURPOSE: A wavelength demultiplexer is provided to be capable of reducing loss by suppressing the excitation of a higher-order mode. CONSTITUTION: A wavelength demultiplexer(10) comprises the first waveguide(1) for transmitting beams having a plurality of wavelength multiplexed channels, the first slab(2) for diffusing the beams supplied through the first waveguide, and a plurality of channel waveguides(3) for dividing the beams. The wavelength demultiplexer further includes the second slab(4) for converging the divided beams and the second waveguide(5) for transmitting the converged beams. At this time, the first connecting portions between the channel waveguide and the first slab, outnumber the second connecting portions between the channel waveguide and the second slab.
