ENCODING/DECODING APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR GRAPHIC ANIMATION DATA

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus capable of encoding/decoding efficiently for graphic animation data and to provide the method therefor. SOLUTION: An encoding apparatus includes a quantizer for quantizing key data to generate quantized data, a DPCM (difference pulse code modulation) processing unit for conducting DPCM processing for the quantized data and selecting and outputting a DPCM data having the lowest dispersion among N-th order DPCM data generated by repeating DPCM processing for a DPCM processed data as an input, an extremum value removing unit for narrowing the width of data variation by removing extremum data existing in the DPCM data outputted from the DPCM processing unit, and an entropy encoder for generating a compressed and encoded binary bit stream by eliminating redundancy of binary bits from the data outputted from the extremum data removing unit. The encoding apparatus encodes key data corresponding to the time variable out of graphic animation data.
