PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the deterioration/damage of an original tape, and to simplify operation when a cassette tape is copied. SOLUTION: This device is provided with a reproducing means 1 of data recorded on an original tape, a storage means 8 of the data reproduced by the reproducing means 8, selection means 35 to 37 for selecting a copying method of continuously copying reproduced data from the A, B surfaces of the original tape from the A surface of a copying destination tape, or a copying method of copying the reproduced data from the A surface of the original tape to the A, B surfaces of the copying destination tape, a processing means 13 for deciding data to be read from the storage means 8 and the reading order thereof in accordance with the copying method selected by the selection means 35 to 37, and reading the data from the storage means 8 in accordance with the result of the decision, and a recording means 12 for recording the data read from the storage means 8 on the copying destination tape.
