PURPOSE: A reset method of a cable modem is provided to search a normal downward frequency by escaping from a status where an erroneous downward frequency continues to be locked. CONSTITUTION: When searching a downward frequency, a cable MODEM(120) stores a history of a corresponding frequency before downward frequency locking is completed and a next reset operation is performed. The cable MODEM compares the stored history with previously stored data, and goes to a next step when no fail history exists. If a fail history exists, the cable MODEM continues to search another downward frequency. The cable MODEM stores some variables so as to judge whether a presently locked frequency had a problem during a reset operation.
