PURPOSE: A dispersion compensating fiber is provided, which mounts a dispersion compensating fiber longer while occupying the same volume. CONSTITUTION: A dispersion compensating fiber(52) is contained in a box(50), and is connected to terminals installed at the outside of the box. A reel(1) is formed such that the dispersion compensating fiber(52) is wound. One side of the reel(1) is longer than the other side of the reel so as to mount the dispersion compensating fiber in a large amount. The reel is formed so as to have a rectangle.
