PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thin film magnetic head and a method for manufacturing the same, capable of stably intensifying the leakage magnetic field intensity from the vicinity of a gap and excellent in the overwrite characteristics and so forth, even in the case of a narrow track. SOLUTION: Although a second lower core layer 21 is formed between a magnetic pole part 26 in which a lower magnetic pole layer, a gap layer, and an upper magnetic pole layer are serially stacked from the bottom and a first lower core layer 20, a conventional Gd defining layer is not provided. Therefore, it is easy to properly form the magnetic pole part 26 in an approximately rectangular shape, and the problem of the curvature of the gap layer due to the preparation of the conventional Gd defining layer or the problem of the decrease in volume of the upper magnetic pole layer and so forth are not generated. Thus, the thin film magnetic head which can stably intensifying the recording magnetic filed intensity in the vicinity of the gap and which can properly dealing with the case of the narrow track can be manufactured.
