PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data generating method and a data generating device for generating data for reproducing a portion characterized by shading of color when producing a three dimensional model. SOLUTION: After image data of a characteristic part is extracted by a characteristic part extracting part 2 from texture image data divided by a data dividing part 1, the image data of the characteristic part converted into a gray scale by a gray scale converting part 3 is subjected to image processing by a characteristic part processing part 4. A moving amount of a coordinate position is set by a height translating part 5 in response to a luminance value of the image data of the characteristic part subjected to the image processing, and a data volume of three dimensional shape data provided by the data dividing part 1 is converted by a three dimensional shape data converting part 6 in response to the set moving amount. Shape data representing a three dimensional coordinate position is generated by a shape data extracting part 7 from the converted three dimensional shape data.
