PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a separator for a fuel cell, which has low contact resistance and excellent corrosion resistance. SOLUTION: In the separator for the fuel cell, a stainless steel plate is provided as a base material, which includes Cr of 15.0-25.0 weight %, Ni of 2.5 weight % or less, N of 0.1-0.5 weight %, and if necessary, Mo of 10.0 weight % or less. The base material is modified to the surface configuration wherein a number of fine pits (d) are formed across the surface of the base material and fine projections (p) stand together in the periphery of the pits (d). By alternately performing electrolysis etching on the stainless steel plate of the predetermined composition in ferric chloride solution, the base material is modified to the surface configuration wherein a number of the pits (d) wherein fine projections (p) stand together in the periphery are formed throughout the base material. |
