PURPOSE: A device for compensating colors displayed on a display device is provided to set brightness and contrast by using a color compensating program, to optimize the setting of the brightness and the contrast, and to compensate colors in consideration of characteristics of the display device in the state of the optimized brightness and the contrast being set, so as to enable an exact color compensation. CONSTITUTION: A standard color information provider(12) supplies standard color data to a display device(18) through a computer. An optimum brightness/contrast setup unit(16) detects an optimum brightness and an optimum contrast to display the standard color information on the display device(18) as optimum states, and sets the detected optimum states. A TRC measurer(13) measures output values for input values of N(monotone), R(red), G(green), and B(blue) colors. An optimum brightness gamma value setup unit(15) detects an optimum brightness gamma value generated according to a measured TRC by increasing brightness values to maximum from minimum, and sets the optimum brightness gamma value. An optimum contrast gamma value setup unit(17) detects an optimum contrast gamma value generated by the measured TRC by increasing a contrast value to maximum from minimum, and sets the optimum contrast gamma value. A color compensator(14) compensates the standard color information according to characteristics of the display device(18), and transmits the compensated information to the display device(18).
