PURPOSE: A low-speed ATM(Asynchronous Transfer Mode) PVC(Permanent Virtual Circuit) point to point connection control apparatus for an open ATM switch system and a method therefor are provided to connect a low-speed subscriber by the same HMI(Human Machine Interface) command without separately composing a high-speed/intermediate speed ATM PVC connection and a low-speed ATM PVC connection in the open ATM system to which an AMM(Access Multiplex Module) is connected. CONSTITUTION: An AMM(40) performs a low-speed ATM subscriber matching function and a frame relay interworking function. An AMC(Access Multiplex Controller)(23) controls the operation of the AMM(40) for controlling a low-speed ATM PVC connection and controlling an ATM PVC connection with a frame relay. An AIM(ATM Interface Module)(30) performs a high-speed or intermediate speed ATM subscriber matching function. An ACC(ATM Call Controller)(21) controls the operation of the AIM(30) for controlling the high-speed or intermediate speed ATM PVC connection. A WSM(WorkStation Module)(10) controls an input and output function of an HMI command used for performing the low-speed ATM PVC connection control function.
