PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make the whole of an apparatus compact by reducing a move region of a cap. SOLUTION: There are provided an ink-jet recording head 12 which moves back and forth between a printing region and a non printing region and discharges ink droplets from a nozzle formation face correspondingly to printing data, a capping means 9 having a cap member 9a disposed vertically below a move path of the recording head 12 and capable of sealing the nozzle formation face, and a driving means for raising the cap member 9a of the capping means 9 to a nozzle formation face sealing position of the recording head 12 and lowering the cap member from the nozzle formation face sealing position to a vertically lower standby position. The driving means is provided with a can member 91 for applying an elevation force to at least the cap member 9a, a planetary gear mechanism 81 for applying a driving force to the cam member 91, and a paper feed motor 33 for applying a driving force to the planetary gear mechanism 81.
