The device is assembled of two transversally movable L-shaped elements and a holding device (1) with a clamping part (2) and an adjusting screw (4). The transversal sections of the L-shaped elements can be engaged with each other by inserting a projection protruding from one of the elements into a groove provided at the second element. Both are clamped to a base (1) with a clamping arm (2) in order to form a u-shaped gap at the front for the accommodation of the front extension of the vertebral body which can be adjusted in width by moving the projection along the groove.
