The invention relates to an abrasive element, especially for the bits of hollow drills, comprising a sintered metal matrix (4) in which cutting material (6) is integrated or incorporated. In order to provide an abrasive element which exhibits improved cutting behavior at relatively little effort, the surface of the abrasive element (2, 2', 11, 11') is provided with a cut area (8, 10, 14, 16) produced by water jet treatment or a water jet cutting method. As a result, two abrasive elements can be produced from a sintered body by means of a straight or wavy cut line.
