摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently manufacture a hollow member made from a fiber- reinforced metal, which has satisfactory strength and hardness for practical use. SOLUTION: This manufacturing method includes forming a compact 82 on an outer surface of a sand sleeve 32 by means of sucking a raw material liquid L which contains alumina fibers, carbon fibers, silica gel (an inorganic binder), an agglomeration agent, and a pH adjustment agent, through the sand sleeve 32 in a sucking tank 24, drying the compact 82, then separating it from the sand sleeve 32, further hardening silica gel into silicon oxide, impregnating an aluminum molten metal into the compact 82, and finally cooling and solidifying the molten metal, to obtain a cylinder sleeve 10 which has 55 deg. or higher of Asker C hardness on an inner wall part 14, has 65 deg. or higher of Asker C hardness in an outer wall part 16, and has 10 deg. or less of difference of Asker C hardness between the inner wall part 14 and the outer wall part 16.
