PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the bulk density of a raw material coal and to produce a coke having high strength in high productivity. SOLUTION: In the method for controlling the particle size of the coal charged into a coke oven, which comprises a size-control of the raw material coal to large particle diameters, middle particle diameters and small particle diameters, and the charge of the coal into the coke oven to produce the cokes for metallurgy uses, the coal having the large particle diameters and containing the total amount of inactive components less than 10 vol.%, which shows the proportion of a not-softened molten component at the time of heating, and the maximum fluidity over 3, which is a fluidity coefficient at the softened and melted time as the raw material coal, and a non-slightly caking coal having the diameters equal to or smaller than the small particle diameters as another raw material coal are used when using a large amount of the non-slightly caking coal which is difficult for producing a coke while achieving high bulk density.
