PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a production method of a pyrone compound represented by formula (2). SOLUTION: A pyrano-pyran compound represented by formula (1) is reacted in an alcohol, water or mixture thereof with at least one inorganic compound selected from the group consisting of alkali metal hydroxides, alkaline earth metal hydroxides, alkali metal carbonates, alkaline earth metal carbonates and alkali metal fluorides. The reaction mixture thus prepared is reacted with hydrogen by adding a hydrogenation catalyst to obtain the pyrone compound represented by formula (2).
