PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for oxidizing magnesium cuttings safely, and to provide an apparatus for carrying out the method. SOLUTION: A furnace for burning magnesium having a discharge port is provided. The method for oxidizing magnesium cuttings comprises the steps of adding the magnesium cuttings into the furnace, blowing carbon dioxide into the furnace, raising the temperature in the furnace, and capturing a discharged substance from the discharge port with a filter.
