A gearbox embodied with a layshaft is disclosed, with an input shaft (2) an output shaft (3), a main shaft (4) arranged between the above and a layshaft (5) co-operating with the mainshaft (4), whereby switchable gear sets are arranged on the mainshaft (4) and the layshaft (5). According to the invention, the mainshaft (4) and the layshaft (5) are arranged at an angle ( alpha ) to each other.
