An electrochemical half cell comprises a gas diffusion electrode (10), which separates a gas chamber (11) from an electrode chamber for housing an electrolyte. The gas chamber (11) comprises a gas/liquid withdrawing device in the form of an opening (26) for drawing off gas and/or liquid from the gas chamber (11). The opening (26) is offset below an electrochemically active surface of the gas diffusion electrode (10), in other words, below a lower edge (28), in order to avoid a wetting of the gas diffusion electrode (10).
