It is intended to conveniently and effectively provide peroxisome proliferat or activated ligands and compositions containing the same as the active ingredient for improving insulin resistance or preventing and/or relieving insulin resistance syndrome. Peroxisome proliferator activated ligands which comprise prenyl flavonoid, flavonol derivatives other than prenyl flavonoid, chalcone derivatives other than prenyl flavonoid, or salts, glycosides and/o r esters thereof which are accepted as medicines, foods or drinks; composition s containing these ligands; extracts originating in plants containing these ligands; and a process for producing such extract.
