PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink jet printer and an ink supply method which reduce deterioration of a recording liquid and the power consumption amount. SOLUTION: The ink jet printer is provided with a recording head for discharging high-viscosity ink which becomes low in the viscosity in accordance with a temperature rise, a main ink tank for storing the high-viscosity ink, a sub-tank for temporarily storing the high-viscosity ink in a process of supplying the high-viscosity ink from the main tank to the recording head, an ink remaining amount detecting means for detecting an ink remaining amount of the high-viscosity ink remaining in the sub-tank and a heating means for heating the high-viscosity ink of the main tank, for each color used for printing. Moreover, the ink jet printer is provided with a temperature control means for controlling the heating means. The temperature control means detects the ink remaining amount of each sub-tank from the detected result of the ink remaining amount detecting means, and controls the heating means to heat the high-viscosity ink of the main tank corresponding to each sub tank on the basis of the ink remaining amount of each sub tank. |
