PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To miniaturize and thin a zoom lens. SOLUTION: This zoom lens is equipped with a 1st lens group having negative refractive power and a 2nd lens group having positive refractive power in order from an object side to an image surface side. The 1st lens group is formed of a 1st lens 1 having negative refractive power and a 2nd lens 2 having positive refractive power, and the 2nd lens group is formed of a 3rd lens 3 being a biconvex lens having positive refractive power, a 4th lens 4 being a negative meniscus lens whose convex surface faces to the object side and a 5th lens 5 being a positive meniscus lens whose convex surface faces to the image surface side. Then, operation for variable power is performed by the 2nd lens group and the correction of the variation of an image surface and operation for focusing are performed by the 1st lens group. Thus, thinning at the housing time of a camera is realized.
