A passenger conveyor drive belt (30) assembly includes a belt support (50) that facilitates proper engagement between the drive belt (30) and corresponding links of a step chain (44). The belt support (50) preferably is positioned between a drive sheave (32) and an idle sheave (34) within the loop traveled by the drive belt (30). The belt support (50) includes at least one moveable support member that moves responsive to movement of the drive belt (30) while urging the drive belt (30) into proper engagement with the step chain links (44).
