The individual seats (20) are arranged in rows and are each connected to locally fixed bearings (26) by side parts (21) which are directly connected to the bearing through a pivotal axis. A compression spring engages on an area of the side part which is away from the swivel axis attachment, and the bearing and holds the side part in its starting position whilst enabling swivel movement when required. The compression spring is preferably a gas compression spring whose force is less than the counteracting component of the weight of the seat and backrest.
