An arrester (10) includes a dielectric housing (12) that has a body portion (22) that includes a substantially cylindrical wall (26) with opposing first (28) and second (30) ends that form inner cavity (32) therebetween. A support mounting bracket portion (24) is formed as a unitary, one−piece extension of the body portion (22) and extends laterally from said second end (30). The housing (12) has sufficient rigidity to maintain the bracket portion (24) in a position substantially perpendicular to the body portion (22). At least one varistor element (62) is received in the inner cavity (32) of the housing (12).
