PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ophthalmic composition having improved effects on asthenopia caused by overuse of eyes such as video display terminal (VDT) operation or psychic tension, and further an ophthalmic composition having high respiratory activating actions on ophthalmic tissues. SOLUTION: This ophthalmic composition comprises xanthines (caffeine, theophylline, theobromine, proxyphylline, pentoxyphylline, etc.), and aspartic acid or its salt. Thereby, the asthenopia can be ameliorated. Furthermore, the composition comprises the xanthines (caffeine, theophylline, theobromine, proxyphylline, pentoxyphylline, etc.), and the aspartic acid or its salt. Thereby, ophthalmic tissue respiration can be activated.
