Imaging device for microscopic imaging of an object has an objective (21) for producing an object image at infinity and fixed tubus optics (22) for generation of an intermediate image of the object image. The objective can be moved relative to the tubus in at least one direction not aligned with the objective optical axis, with deflection optics (30) comprising an adjustable mirror (32, 33) that directs the beam path from the objective to the tubus so that is incident on the tubus parallel to its optical axis. An Independent claim is made for a method for microscopic imaging of an object in which the beam path from the objective to the tubus can be adjusted with an adjustment device.
