PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an easily handled, compact, and low-cost system, and a method capable of evaluating not only the particle sizes of nonspherical particles such as column-shaped particles formed by extruding granulation but also their shapes. SOLUTION: Powder is dispersed over a flat surface 3a. By photographing the dispersed powder, image data is created. From the image data, projection data indicating the size of a projection image of each particle constituting the powder to a two-dimensional plane is obtained. From the projection data and a shape parameter, which is a known size common to each particle, evaluation information indicating the shape characteristics of each particle is obtained.
