PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily detect the exact pavement thickness of an upper layer in a pavement work of paving a plurality of layers simultaneously in order to reduce the loss of pavement materials for the upper layer, thus reducing material costs and improving the finishing work of the pavement in spite of a complicated pavement design and an inferior construction environment. SOLUTION: Two layers consisting of the upper layer and a lower layer are paved during one paving process using a screed 40 for the upper layer and a screed 60 for the lower layer. In the pavement work, the height of the screed 60 from a base line is detected, and the height difference between the pavement surface of the screed 40 and that of the screed 60 is detected. Then, the position of the screed 60 is adjusted to a prescribed height, and the position of the screed 40 is adjusted so that the value of the above height difference becomes a prescribed one.
