PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fluorescent substance, (Sr,Mg)3 (PO4 )2 :Sn<2+> , having high light emission intensity, small particle sizes and a uniform composition. SOLUTION: A method of manufacturing the precursor of the fluorescent substance is characterized by synthesizing the precursor of the fluorescent substance ((Sr,Mg)3 (PO4 )2 :Sn<2+> ), by a crystallization method and the fluorescent substance is characterized by preparing it from the precursor of the fluorescent substance.
